Photo Manipulations and Ethics

This article is showing the importance of using photoshop in the right and wrong situations and the effects that it can have. Many photographers and journalists will go to the furthest extent to have their photo be the best. Even if that requires doing the wrong thing and getting in trouble.

I think there are right and wrong times to manipulate photos. When there are little things that people wouldn't really notice, it doesn't matter that much. There comes a time and place when it comes to photo manipulation.

I think this photo manipulation is the most unethical. Many people look up to celebrities and TV stars as  inspirations. I think it is unethical that they would lie and use another woman's body. It become an unrealistic thing if you strive to be like that celebrity. It is also very disrespectful to the other woman because they are using her body without giving her credit.

This photo is pretty reasonable to me. The subject of the photo is not really effecting people or others feeling as directly as the other examples are. The photo was just enhanced so it would fit onto the cover.

National Geographic Warm-up

This photo has to be my favorite. I think it's so interesting how people can design and build such unreal places. It's taken from an angle which makes it even more mesmerizing than it already is.

If I were to take a photo that illustrates the world around me it would have to be somewhere in a big city filled with fun, unique people surrounding me.

40 Greatest Photos

Jack Bradley

  • I picked this photo because I really really love it. It's such a cool thing to see his reaction to hearing sound for the very first time. I think a lot of us take things like hearing for granted.
  • A big reason that i was drawn to this photo was the element of composition, fill the frame. His eyers are super huge as well, it's cute!
  • I think this photo made it into the Top 40 because of the fact that this little boy is experiencing hearing for the very first time.

  • I picked this photo because fun fact: I have a tiny bit of an obsession with the kennedys. I think their family is really classy and interesting.
  • My eyes is really drawn too John F. Kennedy Jr. because of the color of his coat and his height compared to  the others.
  • I think this photo made it into the top 40 because in this time, it was just a sudden event when President Kennedy was assassinated.Everybody was a bit shocked and sad by the whole thing.

  • Again with the little Kennedy obsession. Jackie has always been my favorite since I did a report on her when i was in sixth grade. This summer my family and I when on a little trip to Dallas. My dad and I decided to go to the Book Depository where President Kennedy was assassinated. I've been before but this time i really got the chance to appreciate it.
  • A big reason I was drawn to this photo was because it was one of the photos that really caught my eye in the museum. This photo was taken right after the assassination on the plane back to DC. You can still see the blood on Jackie's coat. As for photographic elements the contrast of the colors and the fact that Vice President Johnson had his hand up while taking the oath of office

Quick Blog: My Monstrous Meal

I don't know about you, but my favorite fast food is Chick Fil-A, Whataburger, and Dairy Queen.
My monstrous meal would include the classic Chick Fil-A sandwich as the base, an order of waffle fires with extra ketchup topped off with and extra large order of DQ fries. Next would be a piece of texas toast from Whataburger or Dairy Queen with peanut butter smothered all over it. In-between the toast, would be a big cheesy piece pizza wrapped around a big slice of lasagna (my personal all time favorite food). Lastly, I would top my sandwich off with an order of sugar cookies and onion rings from Whataburger. I would wash it all down with a large chocolate shake from either Chick Fil-A or Whataburger and an oreo blizzard from Dairy Queen! After that I would probably be so sick from all the food I would never eat any of it again. Except lasagna.

Camera History

1. Explain the "camera obscura" effect. How is it achieved?

The camera obscura effect was discovered by ancient Greek and Chinese philosophers. In a completely dark room, a hole is made in one of the walls. From there, light is focused and the outside scene is projected upside down on the opposite wall. The hole in the wall acts like a lens.

2. What invention during the 17th Century helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera?

The invention created during the 17th century that helped man was the high quality glass lens.

3. What were the parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce?

Niepce invented film which created the first successful photo.

4.What do modern digital cameras have in common with Niepce’s camera?

Modern digital cameras still require and are composed of a lens, dark box, and film.

5. What do digital cameras use to capture an image?

Digital cameras capture images using an electronic sensor called a CCD.

6. What is the difference between the Auto Mode and the Program mode?

The difference between Auto Mode and Program Mode is that auto mode completely controls flash and exposure. Program has full, automatic assist. Just point and shoot.

7. What is the Portrait mode used for? How does it work?

Portrait mode is mainly used for blurring out the background. (aperture)

8. What is the Sports mode used for? (not just sports) How does it work?

The sports mode is used for freezing motion by using the highest shutter speed.

9. Why should you do a half press on the trigger button?

When you half press the trigger button, it will focus on the subject on the photo. You will hear a beep, that means it's ready to go!

10. What does this symbol mean?  When would you use this?

The new planet is one stop brighter.

16. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are four sons instead of two?

The new planet is two stops brighter.

17. What affect does a longer shutter speed of have?

Longer shutter speed will give more light being exposed to the film.

18. What affect does a shorter shutter speed have?

Shorter shutter speed will expose less light to the film.

19. What does the aperture control?

The aperture controls light.

20. When adjusting the aperture, how can you increase the amount of light?

To increase the amount of light, the lower number of aperture the more light will be exposed.
